Getting started

Getting startedThis e-learning platform complements the face to face GovernWell Core Module training delivered by NHS Providers.

If you would like to access this course you will need to have attended a face to face module and then request a user name from your trust secretary.  If you have attended a course but not yet received login details please get in touch with who will be able to advise.

The Core module is designed to provide a sound introduction to the statutory duties of NHS governors as stated in the Health & Social Care Act 2012 . The module consists of some theoretical information and then some questions to test your knowledge and understanding.  Each lesson should take about 30 minutes, but if you are not able to complete the module in one session, you are able to pick it up again where you left off. There is a glossary integrated into the lessons where you will be able to click on any word in orange and get a pop up explanation.

By the end of the course you will understand:

  • the framework within which NHS foundation trusts operate
  • governors’ statutory and non-statutory duties
  • the concepts and methods of holding the board to account
  • the role of the governor in financial and business decisions
  • how governors can gain assurance about quality of care

You can access the course here.
